With over 80 craft workers working on over 1000 job sites a year, safety is a primary concern. Our people are our greatest assets, and no machine or tool can take their places when they are injured.
In 1994, we began a safety incentives and recognition program that has covered more than two million hours. Our goal is to have no injuries, no lost time, and no lost productivity. While short of that aggressive goal, we have reduced the average cost of claims from injuries by more than 1000%.
Each year, we honor dozens of our workers who achieve milestones in safe work conduct. In 2008, typical of most years, we recognized 43 craft workers who worked full time from one to as many as thirteen years without a single lost time injury! The average number of years worked without a lost time injury is 5.2; more than 10,000 hours per winner.
In-house training is regularly held, with topics including new products, new techniques, special tools and equipment, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certification, forklift certification, rough terrain forklift certification, training for deliveries in the right of way, personal protective equipment, HazCom, and many others. Additionally, we have representatives on the apprenticeship committees and other Labor/Management committees that work to improve and expand the training available to all craft workers.
Our greatest efforts for our greatest assets - our people
